You Need Your Own Website!

While affiliate marketing can be done without a website, more success will be realized if you have your own website with your own domain. This is due to many different reasons.

First, if you have your own website, and you just promote your website, as opposed to promoting specific products, you have the opportunity to promote numerous related products when the visitor comes to your site.

You also need your own website to pre-sell the affiliate products. Pre-selling

is done with the use of content, as opposed to sales letters that the reader will see when they click through to the merchant's site using your affiliate link. Pre-selling content may be in the form of a review, information, or a how-to that can be used with the product.

Having your own website also gives you the ability to build your own opt-in list, which is essential in affiliate marketing. If the prospect just clicks your link from a forum and goes directly to the merchant's site, they are past your control. You can't ask them for their email address at that point, and you may never see them again

On your own website, however, you can set up a squeeze page and/or put a newsletter subscription form on every single page. When a prospect gives you their first name and email address, you now have the ability to contact that person in the future. We know that a person must see a message an average of seven times before they will buy. On the Internet, this is done with the use of an opt-in list!

Now, you can purchase a domain name and a web hosting service, but what you really need is a domain name for each niche that you are marketing to, and a server where each of those domain names can reside.
